This was our first day with our new tour guide Deniz (which means ‘sea’ in Turkish). First stop was the local bus station to drop Ilker off. After that we headed to Dalyan (with a couple of stops as we have a few sick people on the trip at the moment) which is a little fishing village. We had Pide (Turkish pizza) for lunch at a small cafe. It was so hot today that we just wanted to sit under some air conditioning somewhere, but couldn‘t!
After lunch we all (except one sick person) got on a small boat to Iztuzu Beach (known as Turtle Beach) where turtles come to breed. On the way we were lucky enough to briefly see a turtle which some fishermen were trying to attract with bait (but not trying to catch). We could also see tombs carved in the cliff faces which people had carved for tombs, some unfinished. The boat ride took us up a river to the beach and there were lots of reeds in the water so the channel was very hard to follow. Our captain was very experienced and knew exactly which way to go. Once at the beach we headed straight for the water. The water was really warm, and there was a bit of surf, but lots of fun. After that it was a boat ride back to the pier, where we got on the bus again to head to Fethiye.
Dinner tonight consisted of picking sea food from a fresh seafood market and asking one of the surrounding restaurants to cook it for us. A bunch of us decided to get some prawns, calamari and fish to share. The food was good when it arrived but service was very slow (Turkish time).
